Short CV:

He received his Diploma (1983) in Electrical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, while his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Minnesota in 1987 and 1990, respectively. From 1992 to 1999 he was an adjunct researcher with the Neural Networks Laboratory, Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, National Research Center “Demokritos”. In 1993, he visited the Microinformatics Laboratory, E.P.F.L., Lausanne, with a six-month fellowship through the “Human Capital & Mobility” European Programme. Since 1999, he is a professor with the Department of Informatics, T.E.I. of Athens. His research interests include neural networks, signal and image processing and biomedical applications. Dr. Vassilas has particpated in a number of European and National research programs and has published articles in scientific journals and refereed conference proceedings. He is a member of IEEE, the Greek Computer Society, the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society and the Technical Chamber of Greece. Among others, he has been a reviewer for the international journals of “Fuzzy Sets and Systems”, “IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks”, “Neural Networks” and “Neural Processing Letters”. He has been Program and Organizing Committee member of several international and national conferences.
